I want to make a spreadsheet that helps me choose which crypto currency would gain more based on predicted increases. A coin going from 30¢ to 40¢ vs another going up from $40,000 to $41,000. If I put $28 in either currency which would yield more?

I’ve got to give credit to TikTok for being so original even though there were videos sites like Vine before it’s still unique. And then of course they were Snapchat and Instagram stories. Still it’s a different medium that I haven’t quite gotten into yet.

I have an idea for a social network and so I’m analyzing what’s already been done and how my idea would be different.

And that’s where Facebook comes in where it allows you to post whatever you want first but when the texts on top the photo is secondary. Tumblr also had a way of letting you choose between posts.

It’s really the same stuff just served different ways.

When you start with the photo first you’re locked in to writing about what’s there. It’s not to say you couldn’t write whatever you want but most likely you’re gonna write about the photo and sometimes I have nothing to say about the photo I just want to post it.

But when you start with text first you can optionally choose to post a photo and that choice allows you to post almost any photo. The photo is just for decoration or illustration. It can be a meme.

I finally realized what the difference between Twitter and Instagram is… the difference between posting a photo versus writing text first.

On Twitter/Mastodon you post text first and find a photo to illustrate your point.

On Instagram/PixelFed you search for a photo and then try to think of something to say about it.

That subtle difference has a huge impact on how users interact with the app. I struggle to say much about my photos. But yet on here I can write a lot.

Today at lunch I read about Whitetail deer flourishing in suburban neighborhoods. The reason is hunting is illegal in the neighborhood and that allows the deer to multiply.

I also find that I post differently on the social platforms I write more and I communicate with others more. On Instagram and Twitter it’s all about the likes and followers, but here it’s about the conversation and expressing myself.

I know instinctively that I won’t have thousands of followers on either account because there are simply fewer people here. But for those who are here I try harder to interact and support all. It’s an entirely different atmosphere here compared to major networks.

So I’ve been using PixelFed for a little bit. I like where it’s going and I’m looking forward to an official 1.0 release.

I’m also looking forward to an official app in the future.

I wish I could’ve hosted both my Mastadon and PixelFed instances from my shared hosting account. That would’ve made running these social networks a lot less expensive.

Every day I find myself reaching for Instagram and Twitter a lot less.

I've got a good one;)

Imagine that for one year you can have only one of those. Which one would it be?

P.S.: you know what to do to get a better result 🔁

I tried that app out. Now I know what I’d look like as a cartoon.

@dansup So I noticed on PixelFed that San Antonio, TX, USA is coming out as San Antonio, Texas, Mexico. Is there a way to fix that in version 0.10.10?

@aarongarcia Oh, ok. You should try it out - it's awesome! You can also set a range notification thingy within maximum 10.9 km in radius and minimum 100 meter in radius. If someone you sharing your live position together with are within that "hot zone", you'll get a notification about it.

How this works, I have no idea, but I really want to try it out some day.
